ACUPUNCTURE
This form of medicine began over six thousand years ago in China and is still used today all over the world to successfully treat many health problems. Sports injuries, insomnia, depression, gynaecological problems, digestive disorders and migraine are just some of the ailments that may respond well to acupuncture.
Fine, sterile, disposable needles are inserted just under the skin along the channels of the body's energy and this regulates the internal 'chi' of the body, preventing or curing disease. At Elements of Health two kinds of acupuncture are offered - Traditional and Five Element. They are often used together provide powerful relief from symptoms. |

AROMATHERAPY
An aromatherapy treatment involves massaging the body using pure essential oils derived from plants. The fragrance from the oils can affect mood, emotion and body chemistry either inducing a calming or stimulating effect, whichever is required. As the oils are massaged into the body, a healing a balancing effect takes place in the body, resulting in relaxation and stress relief.
The aromatherapist at Elements of Health will take a short history of your health and then choose a combination of oils for you which is specific to your individual needs. Then simply relax and breathe in the beautiful fragrance of the oils as you enjoy your massage. |

HOMEOPATHY
Homeopathy is a natural and safe alternative to conventional medicine which assists the natural tendency of the body to heal itself. It was discovered in the eighteenth century by a German doctor who found that if you give someone who is having trouble sleeping almost an undetectable amount of caffeine (which in large doses causes sleeplessness) this causes the body to react in such a way that it enables the patient to sleep naturally. A homeopath is someone who is trained in the skill of matching substances to your illness which then causes the body to right itself.
The homeopath at Elements of Health is trained to treat adults, children and babies. All prescribed remedies are supplied directly to you by the therapist. We have other homeopathic remedies on sale in reception. |

INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE
Indian Head Massage is a blissfully relaxing experience that can release lots of stored up tension which is gathered in the scalp and neck. Most people are not aware of how much tightness they carry in the facial, head and neck muscles until they get a headache or neck pain, but these areas are common targets for daily stress to accumulate without realising it. The massage is given sitting up and is quicker than a full body massage, making it ideal for de-stressing at lunchtimes.
At Elements of Health you may enjoy an Indian Head Massage for yourself, or you may even train to do it professionally in our workshops held throughout the year. |

NUTRITIONAL THERAPY
Sometimes it is hard to know how to eat healthily. Many people try to eat a good diet, but it is difficult when commercial foods are grown on soils depleted of trace nutrients and are picked unripened without the chance to develop all their health giving properties. We need to know which nutrients may benefit us as individuals, particularly when we have had long term health problems, or if we suspect we have undiagnosed food intolerances.
This is the specialist knowledge that a qualified nutritional therapist has. At Elements of Health our nutritionist will take a detailed case history and may carry out tests to check your nutritional or allergy status. You may then be recommended to adopt a certain diet and take supplements. All prescribed supplements are available at reception or directly through the therapist.

OSTEOPOROSIS SCREENING
Osteoporosis (brittle bone disease) now affects 1 in 3 women and 1 in 10 men in the UK. Early detection of this disease is crucial as it is much easier to treat people if their osteoporosis is mild and has not yet caused any problems.
Osteoporosis screening is available at Elements of Health on a regular basis. The screening is quick, accurate, inexpensive, non-invasive and painless. It comprises of a simple ultrasound of the heel which gives a good indication of the state of the rest of the skeleton. If necessary, the results of your screening may be taken to your GP and after that you can receive NHS treatment.

REFLEXOLOGY
In a reflexology treatment the patient lays down on a couch while the therapist applies pressure to the tops, sides and soles of the feet using the fingers and thumbs. Each part of the foot corresponds to a particular organ or system in the body. Tenderness or 'grittiness' detected in any area can indicate blockages in the system. Using pressure on specific areas of the feet, energy around the body is unblocked, balanced and healed.
Reflexology is particularly good for stress related illnesses because the treatment induces deep relaxation. This boosts the immune system, relieves headaches, regulates digestion and allows tension to disappear from all parts of the body. It also speeds up blood circulation and assists the removal of waste products and toxins from the body.

SHIATSU
Shiatsu is a traditional hands-on Japanese healing therapy. Training to become a therapist takes several years and it is important to find a registered practitioner to get the best results. Shiatsu can help in a wide range of conditions: from specific injuries to more general symptoms of poor health. Having a treatment is a deeply relaxing experience and regular Shiatsu sessions help to prevent the build up of stress in our daily lives.
The session usually takes place on a padded mat at floor level. Elements of Health has a spacious treatment room equipped with floor-level heaters and a large futon, making it well suited for Shiatsu. The client stays fully clothed, so it is best to wear something comfortable. After a treatment you may feel revitalised and invigorated, yet relaxed.
